Having been dismissed from my job on the Friday before a holiday was a bit of interesting timing. It gave me some time for being mortified, miffed and militant outside the confines of “the real world.” But by yesterday, I was able to begin to tell the world about my new status.  And today, after a nice workout at the gym and attending the Carmelfest parade, I let my mind wander over my future as I watched six episodes of Treme that I DVR’ed this spring.

It doesn’t sound particularly productive, but the fact I finally was able to watch about half this HBO series was a major accomplishment. I rarely allow myself that sort of indulgence, so I think it was a good use of time.

When I revealed my un-job situation in the first installment of this blog, I didn’t really know who would read it, but, like all those columns I’ve written throughout my professional career, I knew I had something to say. Suprisingly, that blog drew 69 views  and generated some supportive comments from lots of folks — and those were much appreciated.  As always, I’m thankful to have a supportive network of friends who never cease to amaze me with their generosity.  

I’ll be reaching out to other contacts, scheduling meetings and beginning the search for potential clients. It will be a bit odd to be sitting here in my home office as everyone else heads out of the neighborhood in the morning, but the prospect of gaining 90 minutes a day — which was my to-and-from commute — is pretty exciting in and of itself.
